Self Development Training

Overview

Self Development Training aims at developing soft skills in students to help them take care of their social and emotional needs.   The programme will also train committed and interested students to use basic counselling skills in helping themselves and their peers more effectively, which in turn will enhance their overall well-being.

Objectives

 a)     To increase participants’ understanding of self and others.

 b)     To equip students with basic helping skills to help themselves and their peers.

Scope

This programme trains through presentation, discussions, exercises, and most importantly through role plays.  General counselling techniques are stressed, with additional presentations on:

*       Mental Health in Young Adults

*    Psychological Defence Mechanisms

*    Understanding counselling process

*    Code of ethics Limitations and referral

 Date:              Semester 2, week 2 - week 8

 Length:           14 hours (training) & 4 hours (attending presentations)

 Frequency:     2 hours weekly

 Trainers:         Paul Jambunathan, Dr Shamsul Haque and the Counsellors
