PTPTN EDUCATION LOAN SCHEME

  

** Important Message for Students – Please take note that starting 2008, you can only apply for the PTPTN loan provided that your parents have started contributing to the SSPN account at PTPTN. This is a savings scheme which puts emphasis on “Savings Towards Higher Education”. For more information and to open an SSPN account, please contact the PTPTN office via their website www.ptptn.gov.my

General Information on the PTPTN Loan

This scheme enables students in local institutions of higher education to obtain an education loan from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), subject to the following conditions:

  • Applicants are citizens of Malaysia;
  • Have opened and contributed to an SSPN account with PTPTN
  • Pass in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia with at least 3 credits;
  • Possess at least STPM or STPM equivalent qualifications that are recognized by the Ministry of Education Malaysia such as A-Levels, MUFY, Australian Matriculation, Canadian Matriculation, UEC, etc;
  • Have registered to undergo a full-time course at diploma or first degree level. Students in Private Higher Education Institutions must comply with the entry requirements as approved by the National Accreditation Board (LAN) and the Department of private Education (JPS), Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. All relevant certifications and approval letters must be enclosed;
  • Do not have any other sponsorship;
  • For students applying for the second time, loans extended by PTPTN for the earlier instance must be fully settled.

Documents to Submit

Application forms are available at the Monash University Finance counter for RM5.00 each. All applications must be submitted via Ms. Charmaine Paramanathan, Student Community Services Department, Monash University within the stipulated time together with the following certified documents (certification of supporting documents to be done by ONLY one of the following staff of Monash University – Ms Charmaine Paramanathan, Pn. Lily Ropi or Mr Rahula).

  • Copy of student’s I/C;
  • Copy of Letter of Offer from Monash University;
  • Copy of SPM and STPM, UEC, diploma or other relevant certificates and transcript of results;
  • Confirmation of parents’ income; pay slips;
  • Copy of savings account with CIMB Bank Berhad (under student’s name ONLY).
  • Copy of SSPN account application form, deposit slip and the SSPN account letter sent by PTPTN.

Loan Amount

As a general guide, the loan amount disbursed, subject to approval from PTPTN are as follows:

Student’s eligibility for the respective loan categories shown above shall be determined by their parents’ income as follows (excluding MBBS):

Full Loan : Parents’ income less than RM3,000-00 per month

Partial Loan : Parents’ income between RM3,000-00 to RM5,000-00 per month

Fees Loan : Parents’ income more than RM5,000-00 per month

Submission of Applications

As required by PTPTN, all applications must be submitted via Monash University. Please submit all applications and supporting documents to Ms. Charmaine Paramanathan, Student Community Services Department, Monash University. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure the application form is accurately and completely filled up and all supporting documents provided. Any mistakes or omission of information will result in the rejection of the application.

Submission of applications for Monash University students will be opened from 7 July 2008 onwards with 22 July 2008 as the deadline for the applications for Semester 2, 2008. Please do not delay as advised by PTPTN.

Kindly complete the main PTPTN application form with 2B pencil. No part of the application form is to be completed in pen (except for the applicant’s signature and date which should be completed with a black/blue ball pen only). The income declaration form should be completed with a black ball pen.

Processing

All loan applications shall be forwarded by Monash University to PTPTN for processing immediately on or after 22 July 2008.

As soon as we receive advice from PTPTN that your application has been approved, we shall alert you via your Monash e-mail account. So, please check your Monash e-mail account regularly.

Academic Performance

Students are required to maintain an average mark of 50% and above each semester to enable disbursement of the loan which will be done on a semester basis. Exam results averaging below 50% during any particular semester will cause a stop in the disbursement of loan in the following semester.

Loan Repayment

Repayment: Subject to a 3% service fee per year charged on remaining loan balance. Repayment of loan shall start 6 months after completion of the course, for a time period determined in the letter of offer by PTPTN. Typically, loan repayment period is for a maximum of 15 years for Business & Arts graduates and 20-years for Engineering Science graduates. Loan payment period for MBBS graduates can vary between 10 and 20 years depending on the loan amount borrowed.
