Entrance Scholarships and Merit Scholarships for Semester 2, 2008

Monash University , Sunway campus (referred to as “the University” below) awards two types of scholarships to students, under three different categories.

Entrance Scholarships

New students who meet the stated minimum achievement scores are eligible to apply for the Entrance Scholarship.
The Entrance Scholarship is divided into three categories.
The following are indicative of the three categories:

The value of each scholarship is a percentage reduction in the tuition fees only. An application form needs to be completed and submitted together with the relevant documents, before the scholarship is awarded.

Students who are eligible but who fail to apply for the scholarships will not be considered. The application closing date is 11th July 2008. Students who are waiting for their final pre-university results may also apply using forecast results, however processing of applications will be based on the official final results.

IMPORTANT: It is the student’s / applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the Entrance Scholarship application form is submitted directly to the Student Community Services Department (Building 2, Level 2). Please DO NOT send the scholarship application through other departments. The university does not take responsibility for misplaced or lost scholarship application forms that do not reach the Student Community Services Department. All appeals for late submission of forms will not be entertained.

After each completed year of study (two continuous semesters), Entrance Scholarship recipients are eligible to upgrade to a higher category under the Merit Scholarship scheme.

Entrance Scholarship recipients are eligible to continue to receive their scholarships throughout the duration of their studies in Monash University, Sunway campus subject to excellent academic performance and will normally mean maintaining a distinction to high distinction average, depending on the scholarship percentage category that they hold and do not fail any unit. Details of maintaining an Entrance Scholarship are as follows:

Entrance Scholarship recipients who are unable to achieve the required level of performance will be moved down to a lower percentage scholarship (eg.100% scholarship to 50% scholarship or 50% scholarship to 20% scholarship). Recipients who fail to maintain a distinction average would have their scholarship suspended for one semester (current semester of study).

Merit Scholarships

After each completed year of study (two continuous semesters), full load students who have not previously failed in any unit and achieved a minimum high distinction average, are eligible to apply for a Merit Scholarship under the following categories:

Merit scholarship application forms MUST be submitted directly to the Student Community Services Department (Building 2, Level 2). All appeals for late submission of forms will not be entertained.

After each completed year of study (two continuous semesters), Merit Scholarship recipients are eligible to upgrade to a higher category if they meet the minimum achievement scores as shown in the table above.

Merit Scholarship recipients are eligible to continue to receive a scholarship throughout the remaining duration of their studies in Monash University, Sunway campus subject to excellent academic performance and will normally mean maintaining a distinction to high distinction average, depending on the scholarship percentage category that they hold and do not fail any unit. Details are as follows:

Conditions of Award of the Entrance and Merit Scholarships

   
1. Students must be currently enrolled as full-time students in Monash University, Sunway campus and have paid full tuition fees for the current semester of study.
2. The final decision to grant a scholarship is at the sole discretion of the Scholarships and Awards Committee. Every semester the committee will review the scholars’ performances and select the new recipients from the applicants. If necessary the committee will also make changes to the schemes/awards for the following semester.
3. Scholarship recipients are eligible to continue to receive a scholarship throughout the duration of their studies in Monash University, Sunway campus provided they maintain at least a distinction average in each semester and do not fail any unit.
4. Scholarship recipients who fail to maintain a distinction average would have their scholarship suspended for one semester (current semester of study). In order to be reinstated back into the scholarship scheme, scholarship recipients would be required to improve their performance to a distinction average in the current semester. Failure to reach the required level of performance in the current semester would result in the full withdrawal of the scholarship.
5. Scholarship recipients who fail any one unit in any semester examination will normally be fully withdrawn from the scholarship scheme.
6. The University will decide the manner of disbursement of the scholarships.
7. Students receiving scholarships/financial assistance from other bodies are not eligible for these scholarships.
8. These scholarships are only valid for studies at Monash University, Sunway campus.
9. The Entrance and Merit Scholarships are not applicable for students undertaking Honours year study.
10. The Entrance and Merit Scholarships do not cover study of units during the summer break.

The Entrance and Merit Scholarship scheme is only for the following degree programs (MBBS program excluded) :

  • Bachelor of Computer Science
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Computer Systems)

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical)
  • Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology)
  • Bachelor of Science (Medical Bioscience)
