Distinguished Alumni Awards 2007
Date : 30 August 2007
A special invitation was extended to MAG president, Ms Cheryl Teh and fellow alumni member, Ms, Carol Yip to attend the Distinguished Alumni Awards 2007 in Melbourne. Together with Monash Sunway campus Alumni Relations Manager, Ms Lim Ching Mei, the Malaysian contingent met up with fellow alumni representatives from the Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand chapters. It was a beautiful night at the awards venue at Carousel in Albert Park. This auspicious occasion was made particularly special for the Malaysian delegates as the Distinguished Award recipient was pioneer alumnus, Tan Sri Dato' Dr Abu Bakar Suleiman (MBBS 1968, HonMD 1997). Tan Sri attended the awards night with his wife who is also in the medical line.
Following an extensive career as a nephrologist (renal and kidney specialist), Tan Sri Abu Bakar made a substantial contribution to health administration as Director General of the Ministry of Health Malaysia, and in his roles as Master of the Academy of Medicine and President of the Malaysian Medical Association. He is currently the Vice-Chancellor and President of the International Medical University in Kuala Lumpur.
The night’s festivities were a balanced combination of awards formalities, performances and networking over a fusion cocktail fare. This is the first time the event is held in a more social setting and was a great success.
