TeamMonash© Standard-Chartered Singapore Marathon (1 & 2 Dec 2007)

Each year, TeamMonash© from Monash University, Melbourne enters a team to participate in a community sporting event in various countries. The Malaysian Monash alumni participated in the team for the first time in this year’s Standard-Chartered Singapore Marathon which attracts entries from runners around the world (most probably due to its grand cash prizes). Monash University Sunway campus organised a trip for a busload of alumni (about 40 persons) for the 2-day 1-night trip to Singapore. The bus departed from the Sunway campus in early morning and the itinerary was packed all the way henceforth. The Malaysian alumni contingent met up with the Australian team and alumni from Singapore, Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and fellow Malaysian alumni who traveled to Singapore on their own. The Malaysian contingent consisted of alumni, staff and students. Whilst most of the alumni were participants in the marathon, the Malaysian staff and students made up the majority of the TeamMonash© cheersquad which drowned all the other supporters at the event. It was indeed a memorable event and everyone was totally exhausted on the bus trip back – as they slept all the way home with smiles on their faces (caught on camera but not published here).
