Facilities at the Sunway campus
- Monash University's Sunway campus is a purpose-built RM200 million (A$65 million) facility that opened in 2007
- There are currently almost 4000 students and 400 staff at the campus
- The buildings are disability-friendly and the centrepiece is the three-storey oval-shaped Library and Learning Commons equipped with IT facilities and designed to encourage student interaction
- The landscaping of the campus ensures students learn in a ‘green’ environment
General facilities
Library and Learning Commons
- The Library and Learning Commons brings together library and IT facilities in a student-friendly interactive and well-supported environment
- The collection has 51,428 items consisting of books, serials, music and sound recordings
- There are more than 80 computers, including 28 in the training room and five express terminals for quick search and locating items in the catalogue
- Group study areas and a postgraduate and academic space are provided
- Students can access the Monash online databases and collection - 243,838 e-books, 33,991 e-serials and 798 electronic databases as well as online lectures, reading lists and past exams
Teaching facilities
- The campus has two auditoriums capable of accommodating 350 people each, a 150-capacity plenary theatre , three medium sized lecture theatres for 150 students each, six smaller theatres for 120 students.
Computer facilities
- In addition to the PCs in the learning commons, there are 12 computer labs for general use
- Students have access to wireless connectivity on campus
School facilities
Arts & Social Sciences
- Arts students have at their disposal specialised working areas like a state-of-the-art radio and TV studio, multimedia lab, journalism lab and communication lab
Business
- Students of business programs have a wide range of campus facilities for their studies, including specialised resource areas like the Islamic Banking and Finance resource centre, and online resources
Engineering
- School of Engineering students have access to 24 sophisticated labs
- Research and study undertaken includes Robotics, Mechatronics, Chemical Engineering, Aerodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Networks and Signals, Electronics and Communications
- Students also have access to an electron microscope room
Information Technology
- School of Information Technology students benefit from access to additional dedicated IT laboratories
- There is also a networking lab and a specialised multimedia teaching lab
Medicine and Health Sciences
- Medical students have access to state-of-the-art histopathology and anatomy labs as well as well-equipped learning suites
- The Medical School also incorporates new technologies in medical education, such as digital learning equipment and plastinated specimens (Plastination is a technology where the body, or its parts, are infiltrated and coated with a plastic-like substance that retains their appearance and structure, making them very useful and durable aids for medical studies)
- Medical research clusters include specific research labs for Cancer Research, Toxicology, Infectious Diseases, Diabetes and Endocrinology, and Epidemiology
- The Brain Research Institute at Monash Sunway campus (BRIMS) is one of the region's leading neuroscience institutes and the University's centre for neuroscience research
- The Clinical School is in the grounds of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru and offers a clinical skills lab, specimen lab, pathology resource room, library, student common area, an open learning centre and a 70-seat lecture theatre.
Science
- The campus has 40 science labs for teaching and research
- Labs include Applied Immunology and Pathology, Animal Tissue Culture, Plant Tissue Culture, Genetics, Herbarium, Microbiology, Human Physiology, Biochemistry and more
- More than 70 other rooms provide support to the labs, offering space for specialised instruments, an animal house, photomicroscopy, Drosophila fly rooms, rooms for tissue culture, cold rooms, etc
