• Completed a major sequence in a business and economics related discipline (a minimum of 8 discipline units as part of an acceptable degree).
• Successfully completed at least one unit in statistics or econometrics as part of the undergraduate degree.
• Obtained at least a 65 per cent average during Levels 2 and 3 of undergraduate studies.
• Identified a research area and prepared a brief (one page) proposal outlining their program of research.
• Obtained agreement from an academic staff member of the chosen department to be their supervisor.

• Completion of a Graduate Diploma with credit (or above) average. Those with an Honours degree or a graduate diploma in a relevant area can apply for an advanced entry point.

• The completion of the MSc Preliminary examination equivalent to I or IIA would be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The MPhil is intended as a 72-point degree of 18 months full-time equivalent or 36 months part-time.
The minimum and maximum period of candidature is 12 and 24-month full-time equivalent (or 24 and 48 months part-time) respectively.
The degree is a 100% research program, with a thesis requirement
of a maximum of 50,000 words.

• A degree of bachelors with honours I (first-class honours), or honours IIA (upper second-class honours); or
• Have qualifications which in the opinion of the Monash Research Graduate School (MRGS)
are equivalent or a satisfactory substitute.
• And to meet the university’s English language requirements.

The normal length of candidature is considered to be 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time.
The degree is a 100% research program, with a thesis requirement of a maximum of 100,000 words.

• Bachelors degree requiring at least four years of full-time study, and which normally includes a research component in the fourth year, leading to an honours degree class I (first-class honours) or class IIA (upper second-class honours) level; or
• A course leading to a masters preliminary qualification at a level rated by the Monash Research Graduate School (MRGS) as equivalent to an honours class I or IIA degree; or
• A research masters degree; or
• Masters degree that entailed work, normally including a significant research component,
at least equivalent to an honours degree.
