Bachelor of Arts

As a Monash Arts graduate, you will have a solid understanding of contemporary issues and critical thinking skills, preparing you for the workforce as well as future postgraduate study.

Arts provides a set of general, portable and lasting skills vital to any career, such as the ability to research an issue, present an argument, analyse information, communicate clearly and relate well to people.

There are no compulsory units. You can choose from a wide selection of studies and complete at least one major, one minor and a first-year sequence in arts. Elective units, or a second major, may be chosen from arts or an approved area taught by another faculty.

Bachelor of Arts (Global)

The Bachelor of Arts (Global) degree is your opportunity to gain a truly international education.

A special feature of the degree is a compulsory international study component. You can take this at one of Monash University's global campuses in South Africa or Australia, or with a Monash partner university anywhere in the world. This component can be taken for at least one semester and up to three semesters. You may also study up to two semesters by Off-Campus Learning or online modules.

You can choose a minor from studies that complement the global theme, such as languages, politics and cultural studies.

Graduates of the course are critical and creative thinkers with world experience, cultural understand and self-motivation in seeking knowledge.

Bachelor of Communication

The Bachelor of Communication degree will help you understand the role of communication in modern society through studies of the:

  • application of mass communications theory to the corporate sector
  • the role of culture and social structures in social change
  • global trends and their local impact and contemporary writing practices.

You will take subjects in compulsory areas (communications, international studies and writing) as well as a range of elective units from the Faculty of Arts or other faculties. Internships are encouraged.

Bachelor of Arts (Honours)

Honours is a prestigious program, a fourth year of specialised coursework and research following the completion of the normal requirements of the Bachelor of Arts pass degree.

You will choose a topic and undertake research working with a supervisor who provides individual guidance and academic counselling. Honours has also traditionally prepared the way for academic or higher research career choices.
