Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology)

As a Monash Science graduate you will make a difference in your chosen area of specialisation. Biotechnology will be the key area of science in the 21st century and will keep on touching all our lives in many ways. In Malaysia, biotechnology is one of the priority areas for wealth generation and employment in the new millennium.

The program includes a combination of core and elective studies. Emphasis will be given to molecular biology, genetics, genomics as well as plant biotechnology which are relevant to the rapidly emerging biotechnology industries in Malaysia.

Bachelor of Science (Environmental Management)

The Bachelor of Science (Environmental Management) is about the protection, conservation and appropriate development of the environment, heritage and natural resources. Increasingly, industries and government bodies are seeing the wisdom of having a better understanding of environmental management issues. As a Monash graduate you will have the skills, knowledge and scientific background to meet this demand.

The program is studied from a South East Asian perspective. It is designed for those who are concerned about the environment and are interested in understanding how natural resources can best be managed. The prosperity of a country or region depends greatly on its natural resources (including minerals, fossil fuels, water catchments, agricultural land, forests and fisheries). The core units of the program raise the issues of environmental management and provide a range of analytical, monitoring and management skills.

Bachelor of Science (Food Science and Technology)

The Bachelor of Science (Food Science and Technology) is your opportunity to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of future generations. The course focuses firstly on helping you develop a greater understanding of the fate of agricultural raw materials. Secondly on the technology of food such as preservation, processing, packaging and distribution to ensure that food is safe, nutritious, and wholesome.

Graduates of the course are criticial thinkers with skills and techniques related to the processing of agricultural raw materials, and will have a working knowledge of broad areas of application of food science and technology in industry. The course also enhances the need to understand the importance of food to human nutrition and his wellbeing.

Graduates from this program are very much in demand in food industries due in part to their scientific understanding of the technical aspects of food, beginning with harvesting, preparation and ending with consumption.

The Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology) (Honours) has been designed specifically to provide a fourth year of advanced study and research training for students who have completed a Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology).

The course provides you with a unique opportunity to build on the excellent foundations provided by the Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology). This means extending the skills to utilise sophisticated equipment, and to effectively communicate, liaise and cooperate with others in a multidisciplinary setting and work within and contribute to a team environment.

Candidates will complete three units including advanced-level coursework and a research project with supervision by an academic staff member of the School of Arts and Sciences.
