Monash Congratulates Award-winning Business Lecturer

President_and_Chairman President and Chairman, Board of Directors of CPA Australia Low Weng Keong presented the FCPA award to Prof Jeyapalan.

Chair of Malaysian Business Professor Jeyapalan Kasipillai added another notch to his belt when he was conferred the Fellowship of Certified Practising Accountants award (FCPA) by CPA Australia.

 

“It is an honour to be recognised by a leading professional accounting body,” an elated Prof Jeyapalan said. The award ceremony at the Sime Darby Convention Centre, Bukit Kiara.

 

With 30 years’ of experience, the senior tax professional has been with the School of Business at Monash University Sunway campus since August 2006.


At the School of Business, Prof Jeyapalan’s vast service in teaching and research won him the Monash Pro-Vice Chancellor (PVC) Award for excellence in research in 2008 and 2009.

Stressing on the importance of continuous research, he is now working on  “Influence of ownership structure, corporate governance, and culture on tax policy: Evidence from Malaysia.”

 

“The tax culture and environment is constantly changing, especially in Malaysia, which makes it an interesting time for tax researchers to work together,” Prof Jeyapalan said.

 

“I am also working on a research collaboration on ‘Tax incentives and corporate social responsibility: The way forward for Malaysia’ with Associate Professor Shanty Rachagan of School of Business,” he added.

 

Sharing his research findings with the world, Prof Jeyapalan has authored over 10 books relating to the Goods and Service Tax, including the McGraw-Hill-published “A Guide to Malaysian Taxation” and “A Guide to Advanced Malaysian Taxation”.

 

Not showing any signs of slowing down, Prof Jeyapalan was in 2010 appointed as a Professional Visiting Fellow by University New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney.

 

At the School of Business, he is currently supervising several higher degree doctoral students and is also an external examiner for a couple of doctoral theses.
