Monash University Sunway Campus (MUSC) has become the first university campus in Malaysia to obtain the OHSAS 18001:2007 international certification for management of occupational health and safety at the workplace. The campus has also been certified with the Australian/New Zealand 4801:2001 occupational health and safety standard. “These certifications are just the beginning. We need continuous work and commitment from all to ensure that our OHS Management System functions well and achieves its purpose in managing risk, ensuring legal compliance and ultimately ensuring that we work in a healthy and safe environment,” said MUSC Executive Director Mr Phang Koon Tuck.
The certifications were awarded upon MUSC’s fulfilment of its compliance of relevant legal obligations, incident prevention and risk management initiatives, and development of standard operating procedures.

“The certifications also reflect our commitment in developing a culture of occupational health and safety at our workplace, particularly among our students.
“We have also charted new ground in implementing our system by incorporating the use of information technology to create, document and manage the system.” |
