The 9-minute safety video increases workers’ awareness on chemical safety and the harmful effects of its prolonged exposure.

.

The Deputy Human Resources Minister YB Senator Datuk Maznah Mazlan recently launched a safety video co-produced by Monash University Sunway campus titled “30 Tahun Kemudian” (30 Years Later).

She launched the event through her representative, Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) Chief Executive Officer Mr K Selvarajah.

The 9-minute video focuses on chemical safety and how prolonged exposure could affect workers’ health.

“30 Tahun Kemudian” was a joint effort by SOCSO, the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM Selangor Branch), and Monash University Sunway campus through its Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (OHSE) Department, Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC), and School of Arts and Social Sciences.

This is the third video produced by the parties involved to highlight the seriousness of workplace-related accidents.

The first video, “Bangunlah (Get Up)”, featured workplace safety, particularly in the manufacturing sector.

The second, “Dah Nak Sampai (Almost Here)”, focused on commuting accidents – an issue which has been emphasised by SOCSO as a major safety concern in Malaysia.

The “Dah Nak Sampai” video also gained international acclaim when it garnered a special award at the International Film and Multimedia Festival held in conjunction with the 19th World Congress on Safety and Health at Work in Istanbul, Turkey, in September.

Monash University Sunway campus conceptualised all three videos while FMM Selangor Branch assisted with identifying the locations.

“Workplace safety is paramount, and as an organisation that takes health and safety seriously, Monash University Sunway campus is pleased to have contributed our knowledge and experience to produce these safety videos,” the Sunway campus Executive Director, Mr Phang Koon Tuck, said.

“In line with the government’s aim to build a body of knowledge workers through the Government Transformation Program, Monash University Sunway campus is in an excellent position to contribute to its development, particularly in the area of soft skills in the field of health and safety,” he said.

Mr Phang added that efforts through Monash University Sunway campus’ OHSE Department and MUARC were hoped to have positive impact on worker safety.

No doubt, workplace and commuting accidents have a significant impact not only at the national or organisation level, but also on the family and community units. We hope these videos will have a positive impact on Malaysian workers and contribute to greater awareness and a reduction in workplace and commuting accidents,” said Mr Phang.
