Monash Nursing program off to a good start12 May 2008 The Bachelor of Nursing (Post Registration) program at Monash University's Sunway campus is off to a good start with students giving their thumbs up to the flexible delivery method and course content. Several students, who are practicing nurses, said the program allowed them to pursue higher education and upgrade their skills without sacrificing their careers or income opportunities. The flexible delivery method, they said, also make it easier to stay on with the program while juggling their work and other commitments. Ms Chong Chee Ling, who has been a nurse for 13 years is currently working at the Tung Shin Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, said the program was a natural progression that allowed her to further develop her career by gaining new knowledge and skills. She said the program allows working nurses to increase their knowledge and build on practical experience that they've gained while working. Another student, Mr Rajpal Singh said the program's off-campus delivery method was its biggest advantage, allowing students to take up the program from any place that had internet access. Mr Singh, an Operation Theatre nurse at the Fatima Hospital in Ipoh, Perak, said this allowed students to take charge of their studies and maintain their progress despite working full-time. He said taking up the program was a natural progression and that the Monash Nursing degree was a good quality option recommended by a family member who is also a nurse. For Ms Ng Ching See, a nurse at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre, the flexibility offered by the program allows her to juggle a full-time career, family, and her studies.” Having worked as a nurse for over a decade, I felt it was time for me to expand my knowledge base and formalize many of the things that I've learnt during my career. Ms Ng, a mother of two, said the program was well structured and drew on the nurses' working experience. She said for her, the easy access to the Sunway campus offered access to quiet study spaces and facilities for the times when she wanted to study away from home - By Anita Hadi |
