Prestigious awards for high performing Sunway campus staff20 August 2008 A total of 76 staff from Monash University’s Sunway campus have been awarded performance incentives as part of an initiative to reward excellence in teaching, research or administration. Pro Vice-Chancellor and President (Malaysia) Professor Robin Pollard said the inaugural PVC’s Award for Excellence in Research, Teaching and Administration are aimed at providing recognition to staff members who show initiative to achieve excellent outcomes in their area of work. “It is also an opportunity for staff to highlight their exceptional work and demonstrate that they are confident enough to be judged by their peers.” “Last year, the campus embarked on a major reorganisation aimed at developing itself into a premier private research-intensive university,” said Professor Pollard. “A cornerstone of the reorganisation effort, outlined in the Campus Operational Plan, is a clear commitment to implement steps to reward staff for excellent performance and work outcomes.” He said this included encouraging staff to demonstrate excellent work performance and take the initiative to improve on existing processes to better serve the campus community or stakeholders. Professor Pollard said a key feature of the selection process for the awards was participation from all sections of the campus staff community in judging the submissions, as this ensured that decisions were made in a transparent and collegial manner. “The awards are equitable, open to all, merit-based, transparent, involve a peer-process and are competitive.” “We have seen a dazzling array of contributions from broad areas and this shows that staff are contributing in their own way to the achievement of our goal to expand Monash’s contribution to Malaysia and the region through world-class research, high-quality education and superior student outcomes.” Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Walter Wong, who chaired the selection committee for the awards said he hoped to see more submissions for the coming awards. “We hope the awards will promote excellent outcomes and reward performance,” he added. The submissions received for the awards ranged from improvements in business processes at the campus’ Student Administration Department to recognitions for excellence in teaching by academic staff. The next submissions for the awards are expected to be made in December and the campus administration is expecting many more submissions from the campus staff community - Jasbir Singh |
