Insight to the finance industry with Monash Finance Day8 August 2008 Students at Monash University were given an insight to the finance sector at the recent Monash Finance Day. The one-day event, organized by the Monash Banking and Finance Club at the Sunway campus was aimed at giving students, especially those studying in business programs, a snapshot of the industry. Professor Ron Edwards, Head of the School of Business was present to launch the event. He welcomed and thanked representatives from the various firms that took part in the event. “We are glad that the industry is giving support by being here today and hope that the students will take full advantage of the event to learn and understand more about the finance industry.” Professor Edwards said one of the major challenges faced by the industry was retaining talents as many graduates of such programs were going abroad to seek employment. Lee Joo Kheng, President of the Monash Banking and Finance Club said he hoped the event would help students gain an understanding of the finance industry and what to expect when they graduate. A series of seminars were also organized during the event, as well as a career fair for students to apply for jobs as well as internship programs at the participating firms. Representatives from various companies including Alliance Finance Group, EON Bank Group, Sime Darby Motors and the Sunway Group were on hand to speak to the students and answer their queries on finance and give them more information on the industry. – Anita Hadi
