Research Matters Malaysia - showcase of Monash research

Monash University is organising a major event focused on showcasing its research as part of its 50th Anniversary celebration and to mark 10 years of the Sunway campus in Malaysia.

Entitled “Research Matters Malaysia”, the event aims to create greater awareness of Monash’s research and research training opportunities, especially for other universities in Malaysia.

"Monash University is committed to contributing to Malaysia's human capital and research aspirations."

"This year we are not only celebrating 10 years of significant contribution to Malaysia's higher education sector through the Sunway campus, but 50 years of Monash's larger contribution to Malaysia's education development," said Pro Vice-Chancellor and President (Malaysia) Professor Robin Pollard.

Major events planned include the Monash University Research Seminars on 25 June at the university’s Sunway campus in Bandar Sunway, Selangor.

The three research seminars are:

1) “Responding to climate change: Avoiding the unmanageable and managing the unavoidable” by Professor Amanda Lynch, School of Geography and Environmental Science, Monash University Australia;

2) “Small Matters: Medical diagnostics and devices driven by micro/nanotechnologies” by  Dr.Leslie Yeo, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Monash University Australia; and

3) “Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Obesity: The Metabolic Syndrome: synergy in form and action” by Professor Anuar Zaini and Professor Khalid Kadir, Tan Sri Jeffery Cheah School of Medicine, Monash University Sunway campus.

A research degrees information session for Monash representatives has been scheduled for June 26 on the Sunway campus, during which senior staff from Monash University Australia will speak on research and scholarships at Monash University, applications for research and finding a supervisor and applications for research programs.

On 28 June, Monash has also organised a Higher Degrees by Research Information Expo at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel to disseminate information on research at Monash for those keen to take up postgraduate education either through coursework or research.
