"My experience at Monash University has been a memorable one, where I was instilled values, principles and ethics not only pertaining to the medical field, but to the human life."
I graduated from Monash University Sunway Campus in the year 2013 and started my internship at Barwon Health in Australia in the year 2014. Following my internship, I won the Intern of the Year Award in for “an enthusiastic, hard-working approach and for showing the highest level of initiative and interest”.
Currently, I am an Intensive Care Registrar at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. I attribute this achievement to my parents first and foremost, to my friends, colleagues, consultants but also those who have guided me throughout my university days. There are many people I have crossed path with, who have been a blessing in my life and amongst, are certainly those from Monash University. And here, amongst all the favours and blessings, I dedicate this article to my friends, my supervisors, my teachers who in my eyes are my giants without whom I would not have been able to sail through this journey.
All of us, in one way or another, stand on the shoulders of giants. We use the wisdom and experience gained by those who have walked on this path before us, to move forward. My experience at Monash University has been a memorable one, where I was instilled values, principles and ethics not only pertaining to the medical field, but to the human life. The platform which I was participating not only had an excellent curriculum in terms of knowledge, but a lot of emphasis is made on ethics of good practice, the love for humanity and medicine being an art, a calling.
I owe an immense sense of gratitude to those who worked hard to make sure that I was grilled in, the values of a good physician. Their influence has impacted for a lifetime. Internship is an extension of the principles learnt in medical school. I was honoured to be chosen amongst a cohort of 40 interns to receive intern of the year award. The prospect of winning an award at the end of internship acts as an incentive for me to continue to give the best of myself and to work harder.
I remain forever grateful to everyone who ensured excellent training and well-being for me all along. I will try my best to treat my patients with the same humility, care and respect as I have been taught to.
