Monash University Malaysia Amateur Short-Film Competition 2005

‘POWER’

Theme:

What is power? Who holds power? How does it manifest itself ?  We, the School of Arts and Sciences, Monash University Malaysia would like to invite you to participate in our amateur short-film competition on the theme of “POWER”.

If you feel you are not technically savvy, no worries! We are more interested in the way you interpret “power” and represent it visually.  Impress us with your creativity. Be ingenuous. Power is everywhere, but is not often obvious. Take up this challenge—uncover it.

Competition categories:

  • Amateur – an entry can be from a single participant, or by a team of up to three members ONLY.

Film category:

  • Docudrama (mix of documentary and drama genres) or documentary
  • Duration: 10 – 15 minutes.

Language:

  • English

Format:

  • All entries must be submitted in mini-DV and VCD. DVD is optional.
  • An entry must also be accompanied by a 100-word write-up . Just tell us what representation, or form of power is being depicted.  Have fun!

Eligibility:

  • Malaysian between the ages of 16 – 18.

Deadline:

  • 31st October 2005

Miscellaneous

  • Entries should not be simultaneously sent to other competitions, or it will be disqualified .

  • Film-makers retain copyright to their material—we will seek your  permission to screen them for educational purposes.

  • Proof of postage is not proof of receipt—call us up to confirm (see contact persons below).

  • Judges’ decisions are final and no further correspondence will be entertained.

Prizes

First prize:  A latest digital camcorder model (if the winning entry is a team effort, each member will receive a model).

Second Prize:  A latest digital camera model (if the winning entry is a team effort, each member will receive a model).
