PTPTN Education Loan Scheme
This scheme enables students in local institutions of higher education to obtain an education loan from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) to finance their education fees.
From 1st January 2012, students that apply PTPTN education financing is REQUIRED to open SSPN account with minimum savings of RM20.
1.0 Terms and Conditions to Apply Loan
- Malaysian citizens;
- Not exceeding 45 years of age on the date of application;
- Passed Malaysia Certificate of Education (SPM) with credits in any subjects or with at least 5B in Unified Examination Certificate (UEC);
- Possess at least STPM or STPM equivalent qualifications that are recognized by the Ministry of Education Malaysia such as A-Levels, MUFY, Australian Matriculation, Canadian Matriculation and etc;
- Have registered for a full time course at diploma or first degree level. Students in Private Higher Education Institutions must comply with the entry requirements as approved by the National Accreditation Board (LAN) and the Department of private Education (JPS), Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. All relevant certifications and approval letters must be enclosed;
- The remaining period of study upon application must exceed one year;
- Have no other sponsor and
- For students applying for the second time, loans extended by PTPTN for the earlier instance must be fully settled.
2.0 Online Application
Application for PTPTN loan is now done on line at http://www.ptptn.gov.my/gateway. Hard copy loan applications are no longer accepted.

3.0 Online Application Deadlines
There are 2 deadlines for each semester as stated below:-

4.0 Loan Amount
As a general guide, the loan amount disbursed, subject to approval from PTPTN are as follows:

Student’s eligibility for the respective loan categories shown above shall be determined by their parents’ income as follows (excluding MBBS and Pharmacy):
Full Loan : Parents’ income less than RM4,000-00 per month
Partial Loan : Parents’ income between RM4,000-00 to RM5,000-00 per month
Fees Loan : Parents’ income more than RM5,000-00 per month
5.0 Suspension of Loan Repayment
The payment of loans will be suspended for a particular semester for the following reasons:-
- A student fail to maintain an average mark of 50% and above for each semester;
- A student defers studies.
6.0 Loan Repayment
Please refer to your loan agreement for further details.
Administrative costs of 1% annually will be calculated 6 months after completion of study or termination of loans as specified in the signed agreement. No deduction is given in administrative cost.
Repayment of loan shall start 6 months after completion of the course. Deferment of repayment can be considered for borrowers who continue their studies or who are not working by submitting an application to PTPTN. However, administrative cost will be charged during the period of deferment.
