Indian Institute of Management students visit Monash17 January 2008A delegation from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management visited Monash University’s Sunway campus recently as part of their study visit to Malaysia. The group comprised 27 final year Master of Business Administration students enrolled in one of India’s leading education institutions. The students were briefed on Monash University and the private education sector in Malaysia by Pro Vice-Chancellor and President ( Malaysia), Professor Robin Pollard. Professor Pollard gave a thought provoking presentation on the development of the education sector in Malaysia and Monash University’s presence in Malaysia, which was then followed by a lively Q&A session, actively participated in by the IIM students. Professor Bala Shanmugam, Monash University’s Chair of Accounting & Finance, who is also one of Malaysia’s leading experts on Islamic Banking, then presented an overview of the Malaysian financial system. The students further learned about Islamic Banking and Finance from Monash graduate student and Islamic Banking practitioner, Mr Lokesh Gupta. The students also had the opportunity to tour the new RM200 million Sunway campus. One student, Mr Kapil Modi said that their week-long visit had been an eye-opener as it was the first time in Malaysia for many of the students. “ Malaysia has done very well and this visit was a great opportunity for us to learn more about this country and its economy,” he observed.
