New Pro Vice-Chancellor at Monash University

Professor Robin Pollard is the new Pro Vice-Chancellor and President ( Malaysia) of the Monash University campus in Bandar Sunway. Professor Pollard, who assumed his duties on 23 October, takes over from Professor Merilyn Liddell.

Professor Pollard, was previously the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Professor, University of New England, Australia. Professor Pollard is no stranger to Malaysia, having been the Foundation Professor and Head of School at the campus in the years 1998-2000.

Robin’s background is in condensed matter physics, but he has also held academic positions in Information Technology, Marketing and in Chemistry. He has worked in Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Canada, United States of America and Great Britain.

" Monash University has come a long way since its establishment in 1998 and the opening of our new campus sets a strong foundation for our development into a premier private research-intensive university that will contribute to the nation and Southeast Asia."

"The university has had numerous collaborations with other universities in the country and we look forward to greater collaboration in the near future, especially in the area of research."

Professor Pollard said Monash University had a wide range of infrastructure put in place at some of its other campuses, as well as a global research networks that could be jointly tapped and utilised for research programmes.

"We will therefore reach out to expand our collaborations locally and initiate joint research programmes that will benefit Malaysia and the region," he said.

Monash University ’s campus in Bandar Sunway is one of eight operated by the university in three countries. Monash, which celebrates its 50 th anniversary next year, is Australia’s largest and most international university and has been consistently ranked among the top 50 universities worldwide by the Times Higher Education Supplement UK.
