Engineering students recognised for outstanding final year projectsMonash University recently awarded 13 engineering students for their outstanding final year projects. The three winners of the Best Final Year Project Award were Ong Boon Siong for Mechanical Engineering, Srinivasan Aravinthan for Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering and Daniel Looi Ming Yew for Mechatronics Engineering. Each received RM250 and a certificate. Three other students from their respective programs were given the Merit Awards for their projects and were also given RM150 and a certificate each. Apart from that, Wong Ming Jie who is studying Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering was given a Certificate for his project. Professor Ian Prince, the Head of School for the School of Engineering who was on hand to present the awards at the ceremony said, “This is one way for us to reward deserving students for their remarkable efforts for their final year projects. It is also an avenue for us to recognise their hard work.” “I am honoured to present the students here with the awards as it was indeed an outstanding feat, not only for them but also the lecturers who acted as their project supervisors,” he added. Daniel Looi Ming Yew, the winner for the Best Project Award (Mechatronics Engineering) for his project ‘Implementation of Object Recognition and Obstacle Avoidance for Active Media Pioneer Robot’ said, “I am honoured that all the hard work and effort put into this project has earned me this award.” “I feel that this is an encouragement and motivation for me to work harder in the future and know that any amount of hard work put in would not be wasted as long as you are focused on achieving great results.” The students took approximately seven months to complete their projects. The award was presented at the new Monash University campus in Bandar Sunway and was witnessed by lecturers, their fellow students as well as proud family members and friends.
