Monash named Business of the Year

Monash University 's Sunway campus has been given the Business of the Year Award by the Malaysian Australian Business Council.

The annual award, one of three presented each year by the MABC, was given out by the Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak at the council's annual dinner on 5 September.

On hand to receive the award were Pro Vice-Chancellor and President ( Malaysia) Professor Merilyn Liddell and Executive Director Mr Phang Koon Tuck. Also present was Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia and MABC Patron H.E. Penny Williams, MABC Chairman Datuk Mohamed Zain Mohamed Yusuf and senior university representatives.

The ‘Business of the Year’ Award is presented to a Corporate Member of MABC who has performed with sustained excellence over the previous year within its industry sector and the Australia-Malaysia market. The criteria set for this award may be related to organisational management such as a commitment to excellence and promoting the MABC and its mission, market performance such as sales growth in the past year, innovation such as the introduction of new products or services and corporate social responsibility

Professor Merilyn said the award marked another milestone for the university, which opened its brand new RM200 million campus in Bandar Sunway on 3 September.

"We're pleased with this recognition of our presence and contribution to the development of ties between Malaysia and Australia," she said.

The Sunway campus is a non-profit collaboration between Monash University - Australia's largest university - and the Sunway Education Trust, which is a trust fund created by the Sunway Group to contribute to Malaysia through education.

It is one of eight campuses offered by Monash University in three countries and offers programmes through five schools to about 3,300 students, of which 27% are foreign.
