Research Strengths

To focus research, the campus gives priority to areas of Research Strength listed at http://www.monash.edu.my/Research/. Priority extends to all areas of decision-making, including funding and staffing decisions.

Criteria for Recognition of a Research Strength

  1. Significant contribution to the Campus Operational Plan demonstrated by ducat evaluation;
  2. Incorporation in campus branding, including improving the value proposition for prospective coursework students;
  3. Demonstrated capacity to attract external funds;
  4. Approval of the PVC, normally upon the recommendation of the Campus Research Committee.
  5. Strength Application and Report Form

Role of each Research Strength

  • Maintain a sub-web site that includes the names of members and that highlights outcomes;
  • Be led by the designated Leader who acts in consistency with Leaders' responsibilities;
  • The Leader’s signature of approval must appear on any application to any committee or individual that claims consistency with a Research Strength;
  • Meet at least six times a year; minutes of each meeting are to be presented to the Campus Research Committee in a timely manner;
  • Report annually to the Campus Research Committee on performance against the recognition criteria.

Role of Campus Research Committee

  • Ensure priority for campus research funding to Research Strengths;
  • Seed funding and new campus-funded scholarships may only be allocated to research within a Research Strength;
  • Ensure that any application before the Committee that claims consistency with a Research Strength bears the leader’s signature of approval;
  • Annually reassess the optimal number of Research Strengths, their appropriate breadth and depth, and their fit within Monash research priorities;
  • Consider annual reports and recommend to the PVC whether annual recognition should be renewed.
