Q: How much is the fee for a postgraduate/HDR programs at Monash University Sunway campus?
A: The fees for all postgraduate/HDR programs listed above are RM 30,000.00 per year (for year 2007) not including general fees. General fees cost RM 300.00 for the first year and RM 100.00 for subsequent years.
 

Q: What is the duration of study for postgraduate/HDR programs?
A: The duration of study depends on the program you are enrolling in. For a masters program, the normal duration is 2 years on a full-time study. A Doctor of Philosophy program takes about 3 years to complete for a full-time study. Part-time study requires twice the amount of time stated above.

Q: What is the entry requirement for postgraduate/HDR programs at Monash University Sunway campus?

Q: How is the postgraduate/HDR programs structured in Monash University Sunway campus?
A: Most of the programs are 100% research with no coursework involved. However, some may require the candidate to enroll in certain coursework such as Research Methodology.

Q: Is there a deadline for application of postgraduate/HDR programs and scholarship?
A: No, there isn’t. Candidates can put in their application anytime. Scholarship application should be submitted together with the course application.

Q: How do I apply for postgraduate/HDR programs at Monash University Sunway campus?
A: You are encouraged to speak to the Campus Research Office and the School’s R&D Manager before putting in your application. They will advise you on various matters including entry requirements, areas of research available at the School, preparation of proposal for the application form and etc. A flowchart on your application process is shown here (Faculty-based Masters application process may differ from the flowchart shown).

Q: How long does it take for an application to be approved?
A: It takes approximately 2 months for straight forward cases. Quality is emphasized on all our programs and hence approval will still be determined and given by the Monash Research Graduate School (MRGS) at Monash University Australia.

Q: What if I am an oversea candidate? Will the application process differs from a local candidate?
A: No, application process does not differs whether you are a local or not. However, once you receive your offer package, you will be notified on the requirements needed for an application of student visa (if you do not have a working permit here in Malaysia).

Q: Are scholarships available for candidates to apply to study postgraduate/HDR programs at Monash University Sunway campus?
A: Yes. Monash University Sunway Campus is offering 6 scholarships per discipline each year. This makes a total of 36 scholarships per year. The scholarships offered are worth RM 48,000.00 per year for Master studies and RM 54,000 a year for Doctorate studies. Candidates who are interested in applying can approach the School for more information. Forms for the scholarship application are available here.

Q: Will I know of my scholarship application status when I get my offer package?
A: Yes, you will be notified if you have successfully obtain our scholarship or not in the offer package.

Q: If I am offered a place to study and my company/government is sponsoring my studies, what should I do?
A: In such cases, a letter from the company/government stating the conditions and amount will be required. Your application will still be processed as normal. Our Finance Department will then invoice the company or relevant government departments for the expenses once you are offered a place. Once we receive the payment or a letter of undertaking, the candidate will then be enrolled in the system.

Q: Can I do a part-time study at Monash University Sunway campus?
A: For postgraduate/HDR programs, yes. However, you will need to allocate 2 days per week (excludes Sunday) for research. If you are working, a letter of support from your employer is needed stating the two days allocation per week for research. Part-time studies are only available for Malaysian citizens and foreigners with working permit or PR status.

Q: Are there any requirements I have to meet for part-time studies?
A: Full-time studies entail four full days attendance on-campus. Part-time studies entail two full days attendance on-campus. A letter from the candidate’s employer/superior will be needed to state the 2 days allowed for the candidate to undertake the on-campus attendance for his/her research.

Q: If I am an oversea candidate and currently working oversea, can I do part-time study for postgraduate/HDR programs at Monash University Sunway campus?
A: No. We do not offer external candidature to those working oversea and intending to do part-time study at Monash University Sunway Campus at this moment.

Q: If I am an oversea student on a student visa studying at Monash University Sunway campus, will I be able to work part-time in Malaysia?
A: No. At this moment, the immigration law in Malaysia prohibits this.

Q: If I am currently a Monash University (Australia) student and holding a scholarship offered there, will I be able to continue my studies at Monash University Sunway Campus holding the scholarship obtained?
A: You can transfer to Monash University Sunway Campus to continue your studies subjected to availability of expertise in your area of research. However, your scholarship may not be valid here at Monash University Sunway Campus depending on your scholarship’s terms and conditions.

Q: If I transfer to Monash University Sunway Campus from Monash University (Australia), which fees do I pay?
A: You will pay the Monash University Sunway campus’s fees once you enroll at Monash University Sunway campus.

Q: What are the facilities available for postgraduate/HDR students at Monash University Sunway campus?
A: Facilities offered to postgraduate/HDR students at Monash University Sunway Campus includes laboratory and equipments, postgraduate centre with workspace, computer and printing facilities, databases access, library and etc. More information can be obtained from the Campus Research Office or the R&D Managers.
