Fee-paying study abroad
What is study abroad?
Studying abroad at Monash Malaysia is available to any university student – regardless whether your home institution has an exchange agreement in place with us.
If your home university is our partner, we will classify you as an international exchange student and you can take advantage of streamlined application processes and seamless integration into the Monash way of life. If your university is not a Monash Abroad partner, you can still exchange to Monash Malaysia as a fee-paying study abroad student.
What does fee-paying mean?
When you’re classified as a fee-paying study abroad student and depending on the units you select, you will pay Monash Malaysia tuition fees for one or two semesters of study.
During your time at Monash Malaysia, you will have access to academic support and services as provided to existing Monash students and may participate in the special packages that include excursions or internships.
How does it work?
As a study abroad student you will:
- enrol full-time (18-24 credit points) at a Monash campus
- pay tuition fees to Monash or your study abroad partner/agent
- receive a Monash academic transcript with grades upon completion
- get help finding accommodation
- receive support and services while you’re with us
What can I study?
Monash Malaysia offers a wide selection of units for you to study. While unit syllabuses are similar across all Monash campuses, you will find that each Monash campus also offers localised units providing a unique exchange experience at these specific campuses.
Popular localised units that are offered at Monash Malaysia include for example, the Malaysian Studies, Contemporary Feminisms in Asia as well as Media, Power and Reporting in Southeast Asia from the School of Arts and Social Sciences. Other interesting units include Environmental Science: A Southeast Asian Perspective offered at the School of Science as well as Leadership in Asia, Business in Asia and Islamic Marketing offered at the School of Business. For language enthusiasts, the Malay Language is a non-credit earning unit, ideal for those who wish to learn the local language during their exchange in Malaysia. How much will it cost?
The cost for your program will differ depending on your choice of units, your eligibility for a scholarship from your home country, and your decision to live on or off-campus.
