Professor Nafis Alam
Nafis holds a PhD in Banking and Finance from Monash, an MBA from Multimedia University and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Patna University. He is a research affiliate of the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF) at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) UK and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) from the University of Nottingham. He has been continuously ranked among the top 50 thought leaders on FinTech and Blockchain.

Professor Goh See Kwong
Deputy Head of School, Education
Professor Goh See Kwong is a Professor of Marketing with a focus on marketing, strategy and entrepreneurship. An advocate of innovative pedagogy, See Kwong is passionate about developing the necessary skill sets required in today’s business landscape. He is also known for inspiring learning using interesting and intellectually-stimulating methods such as Business Simulation Games, Global Virtual Teams, Industry Immersion and the Global Immersion Program.
See Kwong holds a Doctorate of Business Administration from the University of Newcastle, Australia and has published more than 40 journal articles, peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.
Associate Professor Manjeevan Singh Seera
Deputy Head of School, Research
Dr Manjeevan Singh Seera is an Associate Professor in Business Analytics and highly-regarded academic cum industry expert. With over 60-peer reviewed journal and conference papers under his belt, his focus areas of research include machine learning principles and applications in finance and engineering, with particular interest in developing advanced machine learning models for FinTech applications.
Manjeevan holds a PhD in Computational Intelligence from Universiti Sains Malaysia, and his current research work delves into the detection and prediction of fraudulent financial transactions.
Professor Avvari V. Mohan
Deputy Head of School, Engagement and Impact
Professor Avvari V. Mohan is a Professor in the Department of Management with a keen interest in Innovation Systems and Strategy. With a focus on sustainability and responsible business strategies, his work focuses on equipping organisations with innovations for sustainable development. An active contributor to society in the fields of innovation and policy, he has provided his expertise to businesses and organisations including UNESCO and Consumer Forum of Malaysia.
Mohan holds a Doctorate in Management of Innovation from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He is on the editorial panels of several international journals and is currently associate editor-in-chief for the Asian Journal of Technology Innovation.

Dr Ewilly Liew
Director, Undergraduate Studies and Course Director, Bachelor of Business and Commerce Program
Dr Ewilly Liew is a Senior Lecturer in Business Analytics. An early career researcher, her interdisciplinary research focuses on emerging technology adoption, digital transformation, and applications of behavioural analysis methodology in public healthcare, higher education, and service sectors. Highly regarded for her innovation in education, Ewilly’s teaching philosophy aims to empower students on the practicality and creativity of applied data analytics in business.
Ewilly completed her tertiary studies at Monash Malaysia and holds a PhD in Econometrics and Management. She has received several awards and is a contributor to multiple international and national interdisciplinary research projects, regularly engaging with industry stakeholders to create societal impact through data analytics.
Dr Andrei Kwok
Director, Graduate Coursework Studies
Dr Andrei Kwok is a Senior Lecturer in Management whose interest lies in decision-making behaviour and strategy with a focus on emerging technologies in business. His research, which uses experimental methods to study individual behaviour (micro level) and business strategy (macro level), seeks to raise awareness on how emerging technologies can contribute to thriving communities and influence behaviour.
Andrei holds a PhD from Monash University Malaysia and has published articles in international journals and was the lead author of a published monograph. Prior to joining academia, he managed international R&D teams in global technology firms.
Dr Sharon Koh
Director, Research Programs
Dr Sharon Koh is a Senior Lecturer in Economics who is passionate about development economics, particularly on issues around economic and social conditions of communities in developing countries. A proponent of active learning, she enjoys exploring new ways to improve the classroom experience for students.
Sharon holds a PhD in Economics from Monash University Malaysia and her work in Thriving Communities (a research cluster) has received acclaim. She has served as the principal investigator of several grants studying the livelihood of vulnerable communities in Malaysia, co-edited two books and shared her research at local and international conferences. From 2020-21, Sharon also chaired the Early Career Researcher Network Committee of Monash Malaysia.

Dr Siew Eu-Gene
Head, Department of Accounting
Dr Siew Eu-Gene is a Senior Lecturer with an acute interest in data mining, web mining and accounting information systems. A PLOS One editorial board member, his research interest lies in the intersection between Accounting and Information Systems (IS) and he has obtained four external funding grants totaling approximately RM200,000 from the Ministry of Higher Education and Malaysian Development Corporation.
Eu-Gene holds a PhD in Business Systems from Monash University and prior to joining academia, worked as both an auditor and accountant in the corporate sector. He has successfully published or presented his work in top-tier international journals, academic conferences and industry seminars. Eu-Gene also actively contributes as a reviewer for the International Journal of Accounting Information Systems.
Head, Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics
A respected expert in the field of computational statistics, Professor Erniel Barrios’ main research interests include big data analytics, financial markets, time series models and computational econometrics.
Erniel holds a PhD in Statistics from the University of the Philippines DIliman, where he also served as faculty prior to joining Monash. He is currently associate editor of Communications in Statistical Applications and Methods and holds membership with several international societies. Erniel also sits on the board of directors of the International Association of Statistical Computing-Asian Regional Section (2022-2025).
Associate Professor Adnan Trakic
Head, Department of Business Law and Taxation
Dr Adnan Trakic is an Associate Professor with the Department of Business Law and Taxation. He has taught and conducted research in the the fields of conventional and Islamic finance law, business law and dispute resolution. As an educator, he strives to facilitate a learning process that allows students to actively engage and learn at their own pace.
Adnan holds a PhD in Law from International Islamic University of Malaysia and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from Monash University Malaysia. His research has been published in reputable scholarly journals and by renowned book publishers.
Professor Grace Lee
Head, Department of Economics
Professor Grace Lee Hooi Yean is a Professor of Economics and leader of the research cluster, ‘Thriving Communities’ at the School of Business. Her principal areas of interest are applied economics, experimental and behavioural economics. Grace has been recognised for her outstanding contributions as supervisor and mentor to many Honours and PhD students. She is also the recipient of the 2022 Dean’s award for Equity, Diversity, and Social Inclusion Research Excellence.
Grace holds a PhD in Economics from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She has published numerous articles in acclaimed academic journals and is currently the principal investigator of the World Values Survey for Malaysia (Wave 6 and Wave 7). She is also an elected executive member of the World Values Survey Association (2022-2027).
Professor Balasingham Balachandran
Head, Department of Finance
Professor Balasingham Balachandran is a professor with a keen specialisation in the empirical applications of corporate finance. In 2010, Bala pioneered and organised the Financial Markets and Corporate Governance Conference, bringing finance scholars from around the world together to discuss research and trends; the event is now held annually and with significant success. Highly sought-after for his insights into corporate finance, he also provides his expert opinion in court proceedings
Bala holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Birmingham and currently serves as an Honorary Professor at La Trobe University, Australia. He has published extensively in reputed A* journals (ranked by the Australian Business Deans Council), led international teams in attaining Australian Research Council - Discovery grants and was awarded the La Trobe Business School Research Excellence Award for Excellence in Higher Degree Supervision in 2019. Bala sits on the editorial board of the Pacific Basin Finance Journal and Pacific Accounting Review.
Professor Teh Pei Lee
Head, Department of Management
Professor Teh Pei Lee’s teaching and research areas cover management information systems, technology management, total quality management, knowledge management, entrepreneurship, gerontechnology, innovation and learning. Her interdisciplinary research profile has made her a sought-after expert and speaker, and she emphasises active learning, industry exposure and research-led teaching in her classes.
Pei Lee holds a PhD in Management from Multimedia University and is currently the Director of the Gerontechnology Laboratory at Monash University Malaysia. Her work has appeared in internationally-recognised journals, and her research has received grants of more than RM10 million. Pei Lee is also an active contributor beyond the academic institution, having served on projects led by the Prime Minister’s Office, World Health Organisation and several federal ministries.
Dr Juliana French
Head, Department of Marketing
Dr Juliana French is a Senior Lecturer who is passionate about the intersections of culture, politics and the marketplace reflected in consumption behaviour. Specialising in interpretative qualitative research, her work currently revolves around how socio-cultural-political forces inevitably marginalise communities in Asia.
Juliana holds a PhD in Marketing from Monash University Malaysia and has published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Macromarketing, Journal of Marketing Management, Business and Society and Annals of Tourism Research. In addition to her research accomplishments, she received the School of Business Teaching Excellence Award in 2019 and was awarded PVC’s Commendation for Excellence in Teaching in 2022. Juliana is also the recipient of the 2022 Dean’s Award for Equity, Diversity, and Social Inclusion Research Excellence.

Ms Tan Mei Sie
With over 20 years of experience in the education sector, Tan Mei Sie’s expertise lies in strategic administration and resource management in academic institutions. Her areas of specialisation include managing policies and procedures for education program quality, teaching and research, budget management and process improvement.
Mei Sie leads the School’s professional teams in the School’s operations: executing strategic priorities, fostering collaboration between administrative departments and ensuring adequate support for all teaching, research and external engagement activities undertaken by the School.
