Speaker profile: Sujauddin Karimuddin has engaged in community development, social and cultural integration program, since 2001 in various capacities in Malaysia, Australia, Nauru, Cambodia and Myanmar. In 2018, he co-founded Elom Empowerment in Malaysia, aiming to provide refugees, particularly the Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, with opportunities and means including language classes and computer training. The mission of the Elom empowerment is to empower Rohingya refugees, especially the children and youth so that they become active members of society.

Synopsis: Suja started the session with his motivation and experience to initiate Elom Empowerment as a former refugee. He highlighted empowerment as the key ingredient to address refugee issues globally. Suja also identified some of the constraints with NGO and charity initiatives, which social entrepreneurship could fill the gap in empowering the refugees. He ended the session by encouraging more young people to care and be involved in various social issues.
