Ashutosh has 12 years of post-Ph.D. research and teaching experience at Monash University in Malaysia, Yokohama National University in Japan, the University of Queensland in Australia, and the University of British Columbia in Canada. His research stands at the intersection of institutional (organizational) economics, behavioral economics, and common-pool resource management. He has published over 15 papers. His articles have appeared in five A* journals including Ecological Economics, Public Administration, Rural Studies, and Hydrology. He has presented papers at international conferences held in Australia, Canada, the US, the Netherlands, Italy, the UK, Japan, and Brazil. On three occasions, he was invited by Nobel laureate in economics, Professor Elinor Ostrom, to give colloquium presentations at The Vincent and Elinor Ostrom Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis in Indiana University in the US.

Ashutosh has secured eight competitive research grants from organizations that include the Ministry of Higher Education in Malaysia (FRGS) and the Sumitomo Foundation of Japan. He has developed an innovative teaching method that accommodates modern IT, students’ learning styles, and their social backgrounds for students at the School of Business.

Ashutosh has successfully worked with students and scholars of different disciplines and views who have come from different countries and present varied cultural and educational backgrounds. Currently, he is focusing on a neuroeconomics project that combines public economics, political science, public administration, and neuroscience. He has long been interested in sustainable economics of common-pool resources. Ashutosh is recipient of the Jeffrey Cheah Travel Grants at Harvard and visited Harvard University in 2018
