Dr. Jane Terpstra-Tong is an Associate Professor at Monash University Malaysia. Concurrently, she serves as the Deputy Head of School (Education), School of Business, and the Chairperson for the University’s Gender Diversity Advisory Group for Monash Malaysia.

Jane is a management researcher specialized in cross-cultural management and organizational behavior. Her current research projects center on the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals of gender equality and women empowerment, and decent work. Her preferred research method is survey research with an emphasis on big data analysis and multi-level modelling. Her research publications appear in top-tier international journals that include Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of International Management and Asia-Pacific Journal of Management.

Jane is an accomplished educator as demonstrated by her outstanding teaching, innovations in curriculum design and delivery, and dedication in supporting student learning. Since 2016, she has been playing a strong leadership role in strengthening the education programs of the School of Business in Monash Malaysia. Embracing the goal of lighting the fire of learning, she has transformed the School’s curricula over the years. One of her most notable innovations is the Career and Professional Development Program which enables students to develop an employability edge and a lifelong learning mindset. Her contribution in education has been recognized by the multiple awards and commendations granted by the University and the Campus. Most recently, she received a Vice Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2020 and the Pro-Vice Chancellor’s Award of Outstanding Educator in 2019.

Jane’s education accomplishment extended to executive education. Jane has delivered master classes for emerging leaders and conducted corporate training for multinational enterprises.

Consistent with her values and passion, Jane led and co-founded the Women’s Empowerment Network at Monash Malaysia Campus. She created the mission and shaped the values of the Network, which continue to serve as the guiding principles of its activities.

Jane completed a PhD in management at The University of Manchester, UK., and an MBA and a bachelor degree in political science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. In addition to these qualifications, she has earned a postgraduate diploma in Education from the University of Hong Kong. Apart from her birthplace, Hong Kong, she has worked or lived in different countries which include China, Macao, the U.S., Indonesia and currently Malaysia.
