As a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidate you will carry out an independent research program under the supervision of an experienced member of the School’s academic staff. Your research can be in the key areas of research offered by the School, including accounting and finance, business law and taxation, econometrics and business statistics, economics, management, and marketing. Candidates must submit an original thesis that makes a major contribution to the discipline by way of new knowledge.
The principal component of the PhD is a major thesis of up to 80,000 words, embodying the results of a research project.
Duration of candidature
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) can be undertaken over three to four years of full-time or six to eight years of part-time study in the School of Business.

Application procedure
The application procedure for a Doctor of Philosophy requires you to identify potential supervisors and a research topic from the School’s academic staff and research expertise. However, prospective applicants are advised to contact the School Research Office directly to discuss if supervisors and other resources are available to support your chosen area of research.
To apply you must also prepare a research proposal detailing your proposed project and to obtain reports from academic referees. Information on possible funding sources is available here.
