The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program is a 100% research degree. It signifies that the candidate has successfully completed a course of research training and satisfied the examiners criteria in carrying out a research project and providing critical analyses on the research results. An MPhil thesis must contribute to an existing body of knowledge by applying, clarifying, critiquing or interpreting that knowledge.

The MPhil program may be undertaken in the key areas of research offered by the School, including accounting and finance, business law and taxation, econometrics and business statistics, economics, management and marketing.

The principal component of the program is a thesis of up to 35,000 words embodying the results of the research project.

Duration of candidature

The Master of Philosophy program is a 2 year full-time equivalent program.

Application procedure

The application procedure for a Master of Philosophy requires you to identify potential supervisors and a research topic from the School’s academic staff and research expertise. However, prospective applicants are advised to contact the School Research Office directly to discuss if supervisors and other resources are available to support your chosen area of research.

To apply you must also prepare a research proposal detailing your proposed project and to obtain reports from academic referees. Information on possible funding sources is available here.
