Personal statement

Dr. Sudharshan N. Raman is an Associate Professor in the Civil Engineering Discipline of the School of Engineering, Monash University Malaysia. The areas of his research interest(s) are:

  1. Structural resilience;
  2. Concrete engineering and technology;
  3. Sustainable infrastructure; and
  4. Structural repair/rehabilitation.

Dr. Raman completed his PhD at The University of Melbourne, Australia, with a focus in structural engineering and infrastructure protective technologies. He has thus far received/led four external research grants from the Government of Malaysia (3 FRGS and 1 ERGS); and has supervised 7 PhD candidates and 2 Masters (by research) candidates to completion. Dr. Raman was the President of the Malaysian Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (Malaysia Chapter – ACI) for the 2018-2020 Session, and is currently serving as the Immediate Past President. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE), UK; a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); a Member of American Concrete Institute (ACI); and a Committee Member of the Civil & Structural Engineering Technical Division of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM).

Over the years, Dr. Raman has built his reputation as a researcher in concrete structures and materials, and infrastructure protective technologies; he has served as a Reviewer for prestigious journals in Civil & Structural Engineering, and Built Environment; and currently sits in the Editorial Boards of three international journals. He has also been involved with numerous consultancy projects in the area of structural engineering and infrastructure resilience, within the public and private sectors, both locally and internationally.

Dr. Raman is currently inviting Postgraduate (Research) Candidates and Postdoctoral Fellows to join the Structures Group at Monash University Malaysia.
