Research Interests
Jully’s currently focuses engineering education research, which aims to initiate, discovery and innovation in engineering teaching and learning, specifically in Chemical Engineering discipline. She is also interested to look into complex engineering activities and problem solutions among multidisciplinary students in preparing them to enter the dynamic and rapid change of workplace.
Jully also contributes in sustainable development. Area of research includes the study of different chemical and or manufacturing production, its process selections analysis and life cycle assessment, and life cycle optimization which focus on environmental impacts (carbon footprint, water footprint, energy footprint and etc.) contributes from different process technologies.
Research Projects
Title: A Graphical Method for Carbon Footprint Reduction in Multi–Product Plants
Carbon footprint reduction has been a common trend for many industrial processes in recent years. However, few analytical tools have been developed for visualising carbon footprint reduction at the enterprise level. Carbon Footprint Composite Curves to aid decision-making was developed previously, but was limited to the production of single product. In this work, the carbon footprint reduction procedure is extended to more general cases of multiple products, in which carbon footprint of shared and independent facilities of the production line are analysed.
Title: An Integrated Analytic Hierarchy Process and Life Cycle Assessment Model for Nanocrystalline Cellulose Production
Nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) is an emerging renewable bionanomaterial obtained from cellulosic materials such as agricultural waste. NCC has many promising applications in the field of pharmaceuticals, chemical, food and personal care. Research on NCC extraction from different cellulosic materials such as wood pulp, coconut fibre, carrot waste and oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) via different process routes has been widely reported, but few have been evaluated for environmental aspects using life cycle assessment (LCA).
