Personal statement

Vivi Anggraini obtained her PhD from University Putra Malaysia, M.Eng from University Technology Malaysia, B.Eng. degree at Universitas Andalas,  Indonesia , in 2004.

Currently, she is a Senior Lecturer in geomechanics at Civil Engineering, Monash University Malaysia.

She has more than 10 years teaching experience. She has been conducting research in the area soil reinforcement, sustainable soil liners and ground improvement. She is the recipient of Monash University grants and Ministry of higher Education Malaysia grant scheme. She has published over 18 original research papers, 3 book chapters and 1 book on ground improvement.

Research Interests

My research interests are in the areas of ground improvement, environmental geotechnics,  geo-material, gas CO2 sequestration in liners, geofibres/geosynthetic in landfill, compacted clay liner, geotechnical properties of soft soils, nanoparticles in fibres reinforced soil and earth reinforced structures (foundation engineering).

Research Projects

Title: Olivine Treated Marine Clay: An Innovative Self-Sealing Liner Material

his research aims to develop a smart and self-sealing liner material utilizing olivine-treated marine clay. The expected self-sealing behavior of the proposed liner material targets to minimize failure due to stress-induced liner cracking, while the smart refers to its ability to sequestrate any excess CO2 emission in the landfill. To this end, the geomechanical and microstructural properties of the treated and untreated marine clay samples are investigated based on laboratory experimentation. Future work features developing laboratory-scale prototypes and numerical simulations using the proposed liner material to evaluate its suitability as an effective liner material.

Title: Investigation of Leachate Transport Through Residual Soil Liners in Municipal Solid Waste Landfills

In this study, three local residual soils were collected from Peninsular Malaysia. Three stages of studies have been defined to achieve the research aims. The first stage of study has been performed by conducting a series of laboratory investigation on the physico-chemical and geotechnical properties of the soil samples by using distilled water and leachate as saturating and permeating fluid. The second stage of the study will be focused on developing a soil column to determine the transport behaviors of key leachate pollutants that exceeded Malaysia’s groundwater and discharged leachate standard through compacted local residual soils. The transport parameters of key leachate pollutants obtained from the physical model will be further used to determine the leachate transport in real field condition for longer periods through numerical modelling.

Title: Application of Modified Natural Fiber in Lime Treated Tropical Marine Soil to Enhance Dynamic Behavior

The present study is concerned with the influence of alkali-activated fly ash and treated coir fibres for soil stabilization and reinforcement purposes in the alkaline condition under static and dynamic loading. This study could pave the way for more extensive research on natural fibres and waste by product and as an eco-friendly solution for soil reinforcement.
