Personal statement

Dr. Tan Wen Shan completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, in 2011. He graduated from Master of Engineering (Electrical), in 2013, by developing a distributed generation planning model using hybrid artificial intelligent approach. He completed his PhD in Electrical Engineering in 2017 from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and his thesis was entitled “Flexibility-Based Scheduling of Variable Wind Power with Conventional Generation and Non-Generation Resources”. He was a Postdoctoral Researcher at University Tenaga Nasional from 2018-2019.

Currently, he is a Lecturer at Mechatronics Engineering, Monash University Malaysia. His primary research interest lies in stochastic generation scheduling, where he has developed a chance-constrained based generation scheduling, with the consideration of conventional generation and non-generation resources (energy storage and demand response), formulated in a flexible ramping electricity market operation problem. The proposed model was tested under high penetration of renewable generation. Projected Disjunctive Reformulation is used to linearize the chance constraints and maintain the computation tractability of the proposed model. He has published many papers in the top journals such as IEEE Transactions in Power Systems, IEEE Transactions in Industrial Application, International Journal of Electrical Power and Energy Systems, and Renewable Energy and Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews.
