Deaf In Touch Everywhere (DITE)

In collaboration with the School of IT, we are in the midst of developing the DITE^TM app. As a mHealth app, it is intended to help signing Deaf individuals access a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) by appointment/on-demand and have their health consultation translated via video conferencing. It will also house a triaging algorithm in Sign Language GIFs to screen and manage Deaf patients for COVID-19 as well a Medical Sign language bank and health promotion videos. Intended for use by Deaf, SLI and healthcare professionals it hopes to increase healthcare access, utilization, and ultimately health outcome of the Deaf.

The concept of this app was awarded the Bronze Award for the 29th International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX 2018) under the telecommunication category.
