Workshop on Contemporary Issues in Quality Assessment for the Health Professions
Overview
Contemporary assessment in the health professions occurs within a complex system of health professions education and health care practice, the ultimate goal of which is the delivery of quality patient care. Global proliferation of integrated, patient/learner centred, competency-based health professions curricula have significantly impacted on both learning and assessment in health professions education. This two-day workshop will contextualise current trends in competency based assessment within contemporary health professions educational practice.
Objectives
Course participants will gain an understanding of the value of a systems approach to assessment, the various frameworks of assessment currently applied, the theory and practice of workplace-based assessment, the importance of standardisation of assessment tools and practice, and challenges to achieving this standardisation when assessment is work-place based.

- Clinical educators involved in assessment of trainees in the health professions at undergraduate or postgraduate levels
- Educators interested in the theory and practice of contemporary assessment processes in the health professions
