Profile Summary

Professor Daniel Diamond Reidpath has been a Public Health academic since 1997, although his disciplinary background was originally in Computer Science and Psychology.

He is a Professor of Population Health and Head of Public Health at Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia. He is also the Director of the South East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO) Research Platform in Segamat, Johor.

Professor Reidpath has published widely including peer reviewed articles, book chapters, a journal special issue, commissioned reviews, and editorials. He has also published across a wide range of areas including medical sociology, public health, epidemiology, and biostatistics. He supervised to graduation several PhD and numerous Masters students. He has held research funds from the Ford Foundation, the Global Forum for Health Research, TDR/WHO, VicHealth, the Royal Society of Public Health, and the Wellcome Trust, most recently as co-Principal Investigator of a grant to establish an Institute of Infectious Diseases of Poverty in West Africa. He has also acted as a research consultant for WHO, UNICEF, and Family Health International.

Research

The focus of his research has principally been the measurement of population health, social stigma (particularly HIV related stigma), and health equity. He was appointed as Professor of Population Health at Monash University in September 2009. Prior to that he held the inaugural Chair in Public Health at Brunel University from January 2005. At Brunel he was the founder director of the Centre for Public Heath Research and was heavily involved in the development of a new Doctor of Public Health program. Prior to his arrival in the UK he won a nationally competitive Senior Public Health Research Fellowship awarded by the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) in Australia to undertake a 5-year research program in social determinants of health. He was a co-Principal Investigator on a large six-country study of HIV/AIDS related discrimination (focussed on South, East, and South-East Asia) and coordinated independent research teams in each country. He has also been involved in research in Cameroon and Ghana.
