Dr Lukman Rashid is a senior lecturer at Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia, and actively involved in advanced laparoscopic surgery. Dr Lukman completed his undergraduate studies in the Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur in 1994. He did his housemanship in Hospital Ipoh and subsequently worked in Hospital Kuala Terengganu as a medical officer in Department of Anaesthesia. He began his surgical career in 1997 when he joined the Department of Surgery, Hospital Kuala Terengganu. He pursued his Masters Degree in General Surgery with National University of Malaysia (UKM) where he was trained in Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Upon completion of his Masters degree as the best surgical candidate of 2001, he joined National University of Malaysia as a lecturer. He was promoted to the post of Senior Lecturer and eventually became Associate Professor of Surgery. As a surgeon, he had training in Advanced Endoscopy and Gastroenterology in Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital in Seoul, Korea. In 2005, he went for a year-long intensive training in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery, Bordeaux, France. Dr Lukman is actively involved in advanced laparoscopic surgery namely abdominal wall hernias repair, upper GI surgeries and bariatric surgeries. He had participated and organized a number of domestic and international scientific meetings and workshops pertaining to laparoscopic and bariatric surgeries. He is currently practicing as Consultant General, Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic Surgeon in Darul Ehsan Medical Centre in Shah Alam, Selangor and joined Monash University Malaysia as a fractional staff in January 2009.
