Profile Summary

Dr Priyia Pusparajah trained as a paediatrician, however,  her passion for teaching and research led her to leave the hospital environment to join Monash University in July 2012. She obtained her undergraduate qualification from University of Malaya and worked as a houseman and medical officer in various hospitals in Malaysia before moving on to train as a pediatrician in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Singapore. It was during her advanced pediatric training in neonatology that she discovered a passion for academics and embarked on a path that led to joining Monash University Malaysia.

She currently teaches both basic sciences as well as clinical skills and is passionate about developing innovative methods of teaching to make learning a meaningful and stimulating experience for the students;  among her innovations are an integrated anatomy-physiology flip classroom, clinical reasoning workshops for early year medical students and creating inter-disciplinary teaching activities to help integrate material in a meaningful manner for the students. She recently won the Annual Physiology Teachers Prize award organized by the Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology.  She has also been actively engaged in running clinical trials at the Monash Medical Precinct and is engaged in research on plasma markers of diabetic retinopathy.
