Profile summary

Associate Professor Dr Suneet Sood joined the Clinical School at Johor Bahru in October 2012. He completed his undergraduate studies in medicine from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India, and subsequently specialized in surgery. Over the years he developed an interest in surgery for disorders of the liver, pancreas, and other digestive organs. His main research focuses on the effects of appendectomy on the body. He also has projects in the fields of intensive care and medical education.

Dr Suneet has written monographs on various digestive disorders and four medical books. He runs several medically-related websites.

Professional Experience

Experience in operative surgery

Dr Suneet Sood can carry out most elective and emergency operations commonly done in general surgery. These include operations for benign and malignant disease of the cheek, parotid, breast, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestine, rectum, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, kidneys, bladder and adrenals. He also has experience in endocrine surgery and surgery for male infertility, laparoscopic surgery and in gastrointestinal endoscopies.

Teaching experience

Dr Suneet Sood has been involved in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students since 1982, and was a recognized undergraduate and postgraduate teacher for Delhi University. He has been guiding postgraduate thesis and also an examiner for several undergraduate final professional examinations (at UCMS as internal examiner, at UCMS as external examiner, at UiTM as internal examiner, at Melaka Manipal Medical College as external examiner), and for MRCS students (at Penang, 2009). He has guided undergraduate students for summer research projects sponsored by the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Experience as a medical educationist: Dr Suneet Sood has received formal training in medical education, and have subsequently acquired extensive experience in this field. He is a trainer during education workshops, have experience with the construction of PBQs, and is comfortable with MCQ/MEQ/BAQ and similar formats. He has been a member of the Curriculum Development Committee at UiTM for over three years.

Educational area of special interest: Medical writing: Dr Suneet Sood has a long-standing interest in medical writing. He is a consultant for Cliniminds, one of India’s leading healthcare education portals. Presently, he is also the head of the surgical section for doctor.ndtv, India’s leading healthcare portal for public education.
