Profile Summary

Tan Jia Yue completed his undergraduate studies in psychology at HELP University and later on completed Master of Professional Counselling at Monash University Malaysia, accredited by the Malaysian Board of Counsellors. Academically, he is fascinated by theories, including the humanistic approach to psychology. As a clinician, he works with clients mainly through the lens of person-centered therapy that is existentially informed. He has an affinity for working with the creative, academic, and helping professionals. Jia Yue now serves as an assistant lecturer at Monash University Malaysia, primarily assisting practicum counselling students with their client assignments.

Research / Education Interest

Jia Yue’s current academic interests revolve around the humanistic approach to psychology, especially counselling psychology and individual differences. He is interested in revitalizing person-centered and existential therapies by being informed about advancements in the common factors of what makes psychotherapy work, such as therapist effects and relational depth. He is also interested in other themes of humanistic psychology, such as creativity, curiosity, the Light Triad, psychological needs, and humor. On top of these, he also pays keen attention to the history, philosophical concerns, and contemporary issues of psychology.
