Community Use Rule: Library Membership
The library membership defines the conditions under which various categories of users are eligible to borrow library materials in the collections.
Staff: All academic and administrative staff of Monash University Malaysia including the Clinical School at Johor Bahru.
Students: Students whose enrolment status displays as ‘ACTIVE’ in the University’s student administration records. This includes students of Monash English Bridge Program (MEBP), exchange students from Australia and South Africa and students who are registered at least in one unit at Monash University Malaysia including off-campus and on-campus students.
Alumni: Monash University graduates who are valid residents in Malaysia.
Reciprocal Members: Monash University Malaysia staff and students participating in the reciprocal borrowing scheme with Sunway University.
I. Active students at Monash University Malaysia are automatically registered as members of the Library. The student ID card functions as a library card for borrowing library materials.
II. Membership will be terminated upon discontinuing/ graduating from Monash University Malaysia.
I. Off-campus students can apply for library membership by completing the Library Membership Form available at http://www.lib.monash.edu.my/assets/pdfs/services/student-membership-form.pdf.
II. The form should be submitted at the Information Services Counter for processing. Off-campus students will be notified by email or telephone once their membership is activated.
III. Library membership for off-campus students will expire according to the duration of the program they are enrolled in.
I. Monash University Malaysia staff can apply for library membership by completing the Staff Membership Form available at http://www.lib.monash.edu.my/assets/pdfs/services/staff-membership-form.pdf.
II. The completed form should be submitted at the Information Services Counter for processing. Staff will be notified by email or telephone once their membership is activated.
III. Membership will be terminated upon staff resignation or by termination of employment.
I. Alumni members can apply for library membership by completing the Alumni Membership Form available at http://www.lib.monash.edu.my/assets/pdfs/services/alumni-membership-form.pdf.
II. The completed form should be emailed to email@example.com or submitted at the Information Services Counter with a passport-size photograph.
III. Following verification of the Monash alumni status, the alumni membership application will be approved by the Director, Library and Learning Commons.
IV. Alumni members are required to make a refundable deposit of RM400 to Monash Malaysia Finance Department and to submit a proof of payment of the membership fees to validate the Alumni Membership.
V. An Alumni Library Membership card will be created for registered members.
VI. The Library membership is valid for 12 months from the date of application and may be renewed upon request.
Alumni library members privileges includes:
- Access and browse the library collections
- Borrow a maximum of 5 books (General collections) for 14 days
- Seek assistance for library research
- Make use of photocopy / printing services
I. Monash University Malaysia students and staff are eligible for reciprocal membership with Sunway University Library for a term of 6 months. Library users can apply for reciprocal membership by completing the Reciprocal Membership Form available at http:/www.lib.monash.edu.my/assets/pdfs/services/reciprocal-membership-sunway.pdf.
II. The completed form should be submitted at the Information Services Counter for processing.
III. Once the membership has been activated by Sunway University Library, reciprocal members can borrow library materials from Sunway University Library.
IV. Reciprocal membership expires after 6 months unless renewed. Reciprocal membership may be renewed in June and December of the calendar year.
V. Monash University Malaysia students and staffs are required to validate their Monash ID card at the Sunway University Library’s Service Counter.
VI. Upon termination of library membership with Monash University Malaysia, the reciprocal membership with Sunway Campus Library will automatically be terminated.
