Library Renovation Work, Phase 2
Dear Monash Community:
Over the past year, feedback from a range of surveys and consultations has signaled the need to address current and future pressures on the Library and Learning Commons and to improve the student experience. While the library may need to be accommodated in a new building in the future, there is an urgent need to expand library learning spaces in the interim.
As broadcasted earlier by Facilities Management, work has commenced on 20 December 2015 to provide an additional 210 seats through a combination of individual study space, lounge, printing stations, collaborative space and maker space. This will be done by transforming five classrooms adjacent to the Library in Building 9 Level 3 (9301, 9302, 9303, 9305, 9306) into Library-managed spaces.
The work completion is anticipated by mid-April 2016. Key dates are as follows:
- Phase 1: 20 December 2015 - 8 January 2016: Demolishing work (completed)
- 11 January 2016 - 15 April 2016, with two-week interruption during Chinese New Year (6-22 February 2016): Renovation work, fit-out and signage update
- Early April 2016: Cleanup and hand-over to Library and Learning Commons
Please note that until mid-April 2016, access to the Library at Level 3 (building 9) will be closed until further notice. The only access will be through the Library’s Main Entrance at Level 1.
In parallel, another refurbishment project will be carried out at the Library’s Level 1 to create an integrated Information Services Desk while providing additional lounge seating and 5 new Express terminal stations. The renovation works at Level 1 will be completed by 1 March 2016.
All Library services and operations will remain uninterrupted throughout the duration of the works.
