On The Edge Talks
Three successful technology Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) share their experiences in the world of entrepreneurship.
Ever wondered how a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a company rose to success? In collaboration with Digital News Asia’s (DNA) Digerati 50, Monash University Malaysia welcomed three successful CEOs on 16 March 2016 for its inaugural ‘On The Edge Talks’ to share their entrepreneurship journey.
Using the TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) talks format which is in the form of short (18 minutes or less), powerful talks, the three successful technology CEOs, Puan Chan Cheong, also known as CC Puan, Founder and CEO of Green Packet Berhad and Packet One Networks Sdn. Bhd; Jeffri Cheong, co-founder of Kaodim; and Matt Chandran, CEO of IGene Sdn Bhd, shared their personal journey to the top. These top Digerati CEOs have established their companies and attracted millions of ringgit in revenue and funding.
“I really like this quote, ‘The only reason I’m a CEO is because I’ve made more mistakes and screwups and both made and lost more money than anyone else in the company’. If you’re going to be an entrepreneur, you’re going to have to take risks. We are very fortunate to have people of this quality talking to us tonight. I hope all of us can learn from it and see what we can do in the School of Business for our students to make your experience more incredible for the 21st century,” Professor John Benson, Head of School of Business said.
One of the nation's most respected journalists and pundit, the founder of Digerati 50, Karamjit Singh, gave a brief overview on what the publication is all about and how it is meant to highlight individuals who will or can help shape Malaysia’s digital economy. According to him, digital economy can be shaped through success and even failure.
Deputy Head of School of Business, Professor Ahmed Pervaiz Khalid said that the vibrancy of an economy is driven by the energy of entrepreneurs: “What we are going to hear today are stories of destruction and creation. Today you’ll be entertained by very insightful journeys of success and failures.”
From the talk, it was easy to surmise that all three CEOs had one thing in common - determination! They had dreams, and giving up was never an option for them. Even when faced with difficulties, they rose to the challenge and fought to be where they are today. From humble beginnings to leaders of the nation’s technology, these men have proven that if you set your mind to doing something, you have to follow through. Failure is never an option!
In line with technology, participants were given the option of downloading the Slido application on their phones and tablets, an online Q&A platform, to post questions to the visiting CEOs.
