Three scholars from the School of Business, Monash University Malaysia, were crowned Champions at the CPA Australia x KPMG: Student to Strategist Challenge on 17 July 2017.

The Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) students, Khor Kaai Yi, Stephen Tan Wen Jin and Ng Ching Khai, were awarded with a cash prize of RM3,500  and internship opportunities with KPMG.

Datuk Johan Idris, Managing Partner of KPMG, presented the award to these bright young students at the KPMG Tower.

Selected from 68 teams nationwide, Khor, Tan and Ng, participated in the business case challenge as management consultants for Emirates Airline. They impressed the judges with their low cost carrier plan for the airline.

“We took an unorthodox approach in this competition by preparing just a few days prior to the deadline. This was done deliberately to help us become accustomed to perform under limited time constraint, where it is deemed crucial in winning any case study competition. As such, we succeeded in collecting, analysing, organising and providing workable solutions within a short timeframe,” said Tan.

The trio owed their thanks to their lecturers on their strong emphasis on teaching them how to think instead of what to think.

The winners also won a 1 year CPA Australia membership fee waiver (worth of AUD290), valid until semester 2, 2018 (31 July 2018).
