An insightful visit
The senior management team of the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT), Monash Australia paid their very first visit to Monash Malaysia recently. Led by Professor Jon Whittle, Dean of FIT, academics and professional staff from both FIT and the School of IT were able to align, discuss, and gain insights into the operations here in Malaysia, as well as in Australia. It also provided a chance for SIT academics to present their ongoing research activities to the FIT senior management team.
Professor Whittle emphasised the importance of working together, to contribute to better positioning and recognition for the Faculty internationally. He shared that one of his aspirations is to have FIT ranked as one of the top 50 faculties in the university ranking by subject.
To achieve better collaboration between both campuses, a number of programs were discussed. This included having SIT staff into newly-form research groups in FIT; co-supervision of graduate research students; and special scholarship allocations and networking opportunities at top conferences with senior staff from FIT.
“The School of IT has experienced phenomenal growth in terms of staff and students. Our focus has been gradually moving towards achieveing excellence in both education and research. In our drive to become a research-intensive school, this visit by Dean Jon and his team is really timely. I’m excited about the future collaborations between our two campuses,” shared Professor Anthony Guo, Head of School of Engineering and School of IT.
