Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers signs MoU with Monash Malaysia

Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB) and Monash University Malaysia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 7 December 2017, with the aim of looking into exemptions for Professional Chartered Bankers qualifications and several research activities.

During his welcoming speech, President and Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Andrew Walker gave a glowing remark on Monash University’s Malaysia Outstanding (6-Star) achievement in the latest Malaysia Rating for University and University College Excellence SETARA-2017, conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia (MOHE): “One of the important objectives for us is to serve as Monash University’s platform for engagement with this dynamic region. This is exactly what we mean when we talk about working with major industry players on education programs, joint research interests, and broader engagement initiatives. I am delighted to be signing this MoU today for these reasons.

AICB Chief Executive Prasad Padmanaban said the Institute is happy to be part of the collaborative initiative in building the next generation of young banking professionals. “The collaboration with Monash University Malaysia will further strengthen our engagement and influence with the younger generation, who will eventually be part of the talent pipeline for the banking industry. It is important for students today to be equipped with the technical and professional capabilities required to give them a head start in their professional careers in banking,” he said.

The partnership will enable AICB to advise on the mapping and exemption of Monash undergraduate units in the Bachelor of Business and Commerce towards the Chartered Banker program and explore joint research and executive education programs such as Risk Management. The collaboration will also serve as a platform for the ‘Thought Leadership’ and ‘Professional Bankers’ discourse series to be conducted by AICB in Monash and explore internship programs for students at AICB.

Professor John Benson shared that the mission of the School of Business is to have a meaningful impact on the way business is conducted in Asia through high quality research, educational excellence and extensive engagement with industry and the community. Addressing the collaboration, he said, “We are all about teaching, innovation and research. This is a great match because we share the same common goals in education, research and engagement. I hope in years to come when we look back, we can celebrate our 10th and 20th anniversary with a quality journal and students from Monash becoming members of the Institute”.

AICB is committed to championing the vision of professionalising bankers by upholding the standards of excellence for the banking sector in order to empower its workforce through the systematic transfers of knowledge through its professional qualifications. Today, AICB is a distinct professional body focussing on membership, education, examinations and awards as well as thought leadership.
