Monash Industry Appreciation Reception

Monash Malaysia held its annual Industry Appreciation Reception 2018 recently. This is to recognise and celebrate long-standing partnerships with organisations across various industries.

“This evening is about gratitude and we appreciate all of you who are here tonight. I hope we continue to have a genuine collaborative relationship, especially in two specific areas: produce industry-ready graduates; and through research, that will help you solve problems and be more productive and innovative,” said Professor Andrew Walker, President and Pro-Vice Chancellor at Monash University Malaysia, as he expressed his thanks to industry partners.

“What we can offer is education and research, these are the core business of a university. What we ask from you is your input into how we can make our education relevant to the industry; how we can best educate our students and enter the modern Fourth Industrial Revolution. That is why industrial partners are crucial to make our graduates relevant,” Prof Walker continued.

Among the industry professionals in attendance was Foong Pik Yee, the Chief Financial Officer of Hong Leong Bank. “It is quite impressive as Monash celebrates its 20th year. We are very happy and privileged to be part of an organisation which has contributed so much to the Malaysian economy,” she shared.

“I think being an alumni member helped me naturally connect with Monash. If you have good university and good students, it is important to allow the students to have perspective of real life,” Foong Pik Yee added. The Monash Alumni is also a member of the Industry Advisory Board at the School of Business.

Echoing similar sentiments, Ahmad Shareza Bin Abdul Rahman, the Head of Mass Banking, at Maybank Malaysia said “Monash is very important to us as it is one of the country’s leading universities. It also produces talented graduates. We’ve been working with Monash for a long while and I look forward to more strategic initiatives together.”

“Monash has really stepped up the game in terms of collaborating and engaging with industry partners. I hope to see stronger partnerships and more successful collaboration. This is so that we can work hand-in-hand towards grooming future young talents to become our next leaders,” said Sandra Tai, the Talent Acquisition Manager at Mondelez International.
